Combining a Bliss Mobil Camper and an AEV Prospector XL results in a highly capable long-range expedition rig designed for serious travel without sacrificing comfort. Available now as a preowned demo unit, this Bliss Mobil 13-Foot High-Bed Camper mounted on an AEV Prospector XL Cab Chassis is a rare fusion of American off-road engineering and European overland design.
With a Cummins-powered AEV-built chassis providing durability and range, and a Bliss Mobil camper delivering efficient, self-sufficient living, this setup is built for those who want to go further, stay longer, and travel in a vehicle that’s as functional as it is rugged.
Unlike many expedition builds that require custom fabrication and extensive lead times, this one is already sorted, road-tested, and ready for adventure.
“People often refer to the AEV Prospector XL as the American Unimog, so pairing our 13-foot Bliss Mobil module — originally designed for the Unimog — felt like a natural fit. The result has been an incredibly capable yet easy-to-drive expedition rig, and the next owner is going to love it,” said Spencer Park of Bliss Mobil USA.
AEV Prospector XL Cab Chassis
At its core, this overland rig is a Ram 5500 Cab Chassis AEV Prospector XL, a purpose-built expedition platform engineered for serious off-road exploration while maintaining factory-rated reliability and payload. AEV starts with the Ram 5500 Cab Chassis, a truck designed for commercial-grade durability. It then reworks it with a suite of off-road upgrades that enhance its capability without compromising long-term dependability.

Serious Go-Anywhere Capability
Unlike many aftermarket suspension kits that prioritize lift over function, AEV reengineers the factory suspension to ensure that ride quality, payload capacity, and stability remain intact. The 3-inch DualSport RT Suspension System is specifically designed for heavy-duty Ram trucks, improving compliance over rough terrain while preserving the truck’s ability to handle heavy loads.
Additional AEV upgrades on this build include a stamped steel front bumper with an available 16.5-ton winch, an AEV brush guard for added front-end protection, AEV driving lights for enhanced visibility in remote environments, and an AEV snorkel to keep the engine breathing clean air in deep water crossings and dusty conditions.
Powering the truck is the proven 6.7L Cummins turbo-diesel. It produces 360 horsepower and 800 pound-feet of torque. Unlike smaller expedition rigs that rely on limited fuel capacity, the Prospector XL Cab Chassis is equipped with dual diesel fuel tanks. That’s a total of 74 gallons, providing a range of over 1,000 miles. This is a critical advantage for long-haul, remote overland travel where refueling opportunities can be scarce.
To maximize its off-road potential, AEV equips the Prospector XL Cab Chassis with 41-inch Continental MPT81 tires, which are military-grade tires designed for extreme conditions.
Still Nimble & User Friendly
Despite its heavy-duty build, the AEV Prospector XL Cab Chassis operates at only about half of its rated payload capacity when paired with this lightweight Bliss Mobil camper. This significantly reduces drivetrain stress and improves long-term reliability — compared to light-duty chassis with heavy campers.
At 24 feet in total length, this expedition camper remains surprisingly maneuverable. You can just squeeze it into a standard parking space, with only a few feet of overhang. This makes it far more practical than many larger expedition vehicles.
This combination of long-range capability, engineered durability, and serious off-road upgrades makes the AEV Prospector XL Cab Chassis one of the most capable overland platforms available today. Paired with the Bliss Mobil 13-Foot camper, it delivers a rare balance of brute strength and refined expedition living.
