Experience

Growing up in the Hudson Valley area of New York, Miya graduated from Skidmore College with a Bachelor’s Degree in English and a concentration in Creative Nonfiction. She dipped her toes into the waters of rock climbing during the last semester of her senior year, and then on a whim, took a summer job in Yosemite National Park that catapulted her into a life of adventure.

For many years, she centered her life around rock climbing and worked any job that would allow her to climb as much as possible. Eventually, she worked her way up to becoming a climbing guide for the Yosemite Mountaineering School, and then ultimately decided to pursue her career in outdoor media where she now works as a full-time freelancer.

Miya is primarily a photographer and videographer, but also a writer who has always wanted an outlet for sharing her thoughts on the latest gear. After all, if there’s one thing climbers and photographers love, it’s gear!

Career Highlights

  • Worked for the Yosemite Mountaineering School as a Rock Guide for the 2019 season
  • Interned under the prestigious photographer, Corey Rich and his production company Novus Select in 2021
  • Published in Patagonia’s 50th Anniversary Catalog
  • Rock-climbing stunt double in a Hollywood feature film

A Word from Miya Tsudome

I am lucky to have been able to establish myself in a career that lets me spend as much time as possible outdoors, as well as express myself creatively through both written and visual mediums.

I always knew I would do something in the creative realm, but discovering my fierce love of climbing and the outdoors when I moved out west is what really steered me towards my path of combining my two passions into my work.

When I’m not scrutinizing the latest outdoor gear, I’m out using it to play in the mountains, gorges, canyons, and tablelands of my home in the Eastern Sierra. Work and play are often blurred for me, and you’ll find me just as excited outside doing both.
