Therm-a-Rest pad
Therm-a-Rest has been making sleeping pads in Seattle, WA since 1972.
I tested out the new EvoLite mattress ($120), in hopes of going light without sacrificing comfort. The pad is 17 ounces and packs down to 7.75 x 4.9 inches. The pad employs alternating foam and air channels and inflates to 2”, which was adequate for both back and side sleeping. I passed out six nights in a row and didn’t stir ’til sun-up. In more recent camping outings, it’s been much of the same.
I talked with Therm-a-Rest to learn what’s kept them manufacturing in the US all these years:
“Manufacturing locally allows us to retain control over the quality and availability of what we sell, while retaining production line flexibility and full quality-control oversight. Our engineers can walk right over to the production line and address real-time issues. Local manufacturing also minimizes wasteful shipping, allows us to test products in our backyard, reduces Therm-a-Rest’s carbon footprint, and keeps jobs here in America.”
I’ll snooze to that!
