Lightweight Trekking Poles – Black Diamond Z-Poles
Many ultra runners don’t use trekking poles, but for long distances, they can greatly reduce fatigue on the legs.
“These poles were like part of my arms and my hands. I never did any sections without them,” Jurek said.
The Z-Poles weigh just 4.5 ounces apiece. They are made of carbon fiber and fold up super small when not in use.
“I used poles not only on the uphills but also on the downhills, to slow me down, so I wouldn’t destroy my quads and my legs. Downhills are the place you are going to get the most injuries. They were indispensible on the uphills to provide propulsion, they’re almost like handholds if you use them right.”
