Filter Water On The Go – Sawyer Mini Water Filter

Sawyer Mini

For a long backcountry adventure, a hiker must be able to make surface water drinkable. Jurek chose the Sawyer Mini Filter, which runs in-line in a water bladder and filters as you drink.

“Because the AT has so much water, I knew I wanted to minimize carrying extra water and weight,” Jurek said. “I was using available water and filling the bladder in creeks, then with the in-line mini filter there was no need to treat it — it was just coming through the hydration hose” ready to drink.

“It’s the first time I used one extensively and I was super happy with how it functioned. I could drink cold water, too. Cold water through a filter, there’s nothing like it.”
